Picasso Museum

Picasso moved to Barcelona in 1895, aged 14, with his family and the city played an important part in his development as a man and artist. Indeed his first exhibition took place inEls Quatre Gatsin 1897. It’s only fitting then that the Pablo Picasso Museum lives on to celebrate the genius of Cubism’s leading light – and arguably the 20th Century’s most influential artist.

The museum is lucky enough to have 3,500 pieces from all the periods of his career, from the melancholic Blue Period of his early years to the abstract Synthetic Cubism works for which he is renowned, and together these archives offer a fascinating insight into the evolution of the artist andhis time in Barcelona.

One of the city’s most popular attractions, this very special collection attracts well over a million visitors every year.

Opening Hours

The museum is open Tuesday to Sundays, from 9am to 7pm, whilst on Thursdays it stays open until 9:30pm.

Note, the museum is closed on Mondays and during certain holidays, such as 1st January, 1st May, 24th June and 25th December.

You can buy advance tickets to the museum via the official website’s booking system for the price of €12 (or €17 with audioguide).

Free Entry

It is possible to enter the museum for free on the first Sunday of each month, and on Thursdays from 6pm to 9.30pm. These times do tend to be especially busy however, and major aficionados might prefer to part with their hard-earned cash than be stuck in the crush.
